Back Pain Chiropractic Care
Back pain got you feeling down?
Back Pain: What is it?
Back pain is a common problem that can affect people of all ages, affecting up to 90% of the world population. In fact, in Singapore, many workers miss 4-7 days of work with MC due to back pain- leading to lost productivity and reduced quality of life.
The pain can be felt anywhere along the back, from the neck to the lower back. It can be a dull ache, a sharp pain or even a burning sensation.
Causes of Back Pain:
- Muscle strain or overuse: Happens in people who sit for long periods or who do repetitive activities.
- Poor posture: Slouching or hunching can put strain on the joints, muscles and ligaments in the back.
- Injury: A fall, accident or sports injury can damage the muscles, ligaments or bones in the back.
- Arthritis: This is a condition that causes inflammation and pain in the joints. It can affect the spine, causing back pain.
- Degenerative disc disease: This is a condition that affects the discs between the vertebrae in the spine. As the discs degenerate with age, they can become less effective at cushioning the vertebrae and reduce the intervertebral neural foraminal (IVF) space which can lead to pain.
- Herniated disc: A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner material of a disc bulges out through a tear in the outer wall. This can irritate the nerves in the spine, causing pain, numbness, tingling, pins and needles and weakness.
- Body Changes: Pregnancy, Aging, Significant Weight Fluctuation.

How To Prevent Back Pain
- Break free from the chair: Every 30 minutes, stand up and move around. A quick walk, a stretch or even just shifting your position can make a difference.
- Lean on it: Ensure your chair provides adequate lumbar support. This curve in your lower back needs love too!
- Stretch it out: Regular stretching keeps your muscles flexible and prevents stiffness. Focus on your neck, shoulders, and back.
- Move more: Incorporate exercise into your routine. Walking, swimming, or yoga can strengthen your core and improve overall posture.
- Be kind to your spine: Practise proper lifting posture and techniques when lifting objects to help reduce unnecessary strain on your back.
- Seek professional help: If back pain persists, consider consulting a chiropractor for expert advice and treatment.
